Corrosion resistance
By combining chromium with a high molybdenum content, Nicrofer 6616 hMo is
extremely resistant to a wide range of chemical environments; e.g. crude,
reducing mineral acids (such as phosphoric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids),
chlorides and organic as well as inorganic media with chloride admixtures.
Due to its high nickel content, Nicrofer 6616 hMo is practically insensitive to
chloride induced stress corrosion cracking as well as in hot chloride solutions.
Welding
Nicrofer 6616 hMo can be welded or welded to other materials using most
conventional welding methods. These methods include conventional tungsten
welding, arc welding or gas shielded welding. Arc welding is preferred. For
gas-shielded welding, it is recommended to use a multicomponent shielding gas
(Ar + He + H2 + COg).

Main features and advantages of the alloy:
Very good resistance in a wide range of corrosive environments under highly
oxidizing conditions;
Excellent resistance to crevice corrosion, perforation corrosion and stress
corrosion cracking.
Main areas of use:
flue gas desulphurisation, eg absorbing components;
recovery of pickling solution in finishing workshops;
components in the production of acetic acid and for the manufacture of chemical
fertilizers and pesticides for plants.
Various products are produced from this alloy according to ASTM standards:
B366 - Forged fittings;
B574 - rods;
B575 - plates, sheets, strips;
B619 - welded pipes;
B622 - seamless pipes;
B626 - welded pipes;
B924 - Seamless welded tubes for heat exchangers and condensers with integrated
fins.
